natural or human-made disastersFounded in 2005 by 5 women academics and humanitarian aid workers, STL carries out activities in Emergency Response, Refugee Support, Child Protection, and Capacity Building in Civil Society, to improve the living conditions of people affected by natural or human-made disasters in Turkey.STL supports access to basic rights and essential needs; aims to eliminate media accounts to learn more about our work.Support to Life is looking for a Research and Policy ExpertRemote workingMain Duties and Responsibilities:Project ManagementLocalization Policy, Research, Analysis and AdvocacyFollowing global trends,and discussions around the localization of aid,Producing periodic info sheets on the most recent developments and its repercussions on humanitarian and development aid in Türkiye,Informing local networks, National Reference Group,and other local actors on these developments,Analyzing global developments on localization and producing policy briefs,Devising research methodologies for first-hand data collection on localization practices in Türkiye,Synthesizing primary and secondary data to develop reports and publications, for internal and external dissemination as well as for advocacy purposes,Depending on scale and scope, outsourcing research work to external service providers and following up their work,Developing advocacy strategies, and plans on the localization topics of funding, partnerships, coordination, capacity, participation of affected populations, and local leadership,Supporting localization working groups in Türkiye in their advocacy work,Preparing communication material to highlight some of the key workaround localization.Global Trends and Policy AnalysisMonitoring global developments,and key trends in STL areas of program and operational expertiseFollowing the broad spectrum of humanitarian,and development policy issues at the global level with repercussions at the country level,Following global discussions on the triple HDP nexus humanitarian-development-peace.Following developments in humanitarian innovation,Focusing on climate change and how this is impacting humanitarian and development action, globally and in Türkiye,In consultation with STL Program Excellence team, defining research priorities for STL,Linking up with research institutes and other stakeholders that STL can partner with,Turning this context/policy analysis and research into material that informs STL’s program and operational strategies as well as its project/program design,Sharing the results of these analyses with all relevant parties within STL as well as national,and global networks that STL is a member of,Editing and proofreading all STL’s reports in English,and finalizing them for donor submission and/or publication,Using analysis and research to develop policy briefs, position papers, advocacy plans, advocacy/communication material for relevant STL teams and project proposals,Coordination and RepresentationEngaging with local, national, and global stakeholders to establish new areas of collaboration around localization advocacy and research initiatives,Presenting some of the key findings at relevant events,and policy discussions at the global level,Representing STL in global events , and processes to share experiences, developments, and good practices in Türkiye,Being an STL focal for global networks such as NEAR, ICVA, Local to Global L2GP, and others,Representing STL in UN-led coordination mechanisms as deemed necessary,Working closely with STL Communication team to ensure advocacy campaigns,and communication plans around priority topics are well rolled out,Working closely with STL’s relevant departments and units to harmonize policy and research outcomes with STL programs and operations,Monitoring and EvaluationWorking closely with STL’s MEAL unit to develop a SMART monitoring framework for STL’s work on localization and the triple HDP nexus,Analyzing, reporting, and sharing information collected from relevant stakeholders, departments, and field teams to enable systematic review of STL’s localization performance,Preparing, and disseminating information sheets on organizational best practices, and potential areas of improvement in localization work and the triple HDP nexus,Project DevelopmentProviding input,and technical support to project proposals,Contributing to the overall quality of project development.Qualifications:Higher education degree in a key humanitarian topic, development studies, or any related social scienceAt least 5 years of experience in the humanitarian/development field, with at least 2 years in academic studies, research , and policy workExcellent research, analysis , and writing skills in English and TurkishExperience with locally-led initiatives in the humanitarian, development, and peace triple nexus contextUnderstanding of the macro-level issues in the humanitarian and development sphereUnderstanding of the recent developments in Türkiye around humanitarian, development, peace, and climate changeGood knowledge of the Grand Bargain, localization agenda, and the Core Humanitarian StandardAbility to manage work effectively, systematically, and strategically, in the face of competing demands and prioritiesExcellent in teamwork, coordination, and representationHaving a positive
