Welthungerhilfe's Head Office is in Bonn, Germany whilst the Syria Response is managed from our Country Office in Gaziantep. Welthungerhilfe was established in Turkey in 2013 specifically to help people who are affected by the Syria Crisis. Since then, the organisation has expanded its program scope and scale to make the greatest possible contribution to meeting humanitarian needs in Turkey and North West Syria. Welthungerhilfe has field offices in Azaz and Afrin, as well as Ankara, Istanbul, Hatay and Mardin. The Syria Response program includes food security, WASH services, Shelter and NFI services, protection, early recovery and livelihood.

Communications Assistant in Mardin 

The position is to be filled by May, 2024, with a contract duration until the end of project. There are good prospects for an extension. The position can also be filled with an unlimited contract duration if the employee shows an appropriate period of employment. Employment location will be [[Mardin]], Turkiye. The position is paid according to [[paygrade]].

This position will support the comms department

Your responsibilities

• Assist the Communication Officer in daily tasks and collaborate with project teams across Türkiye.
• Aid in crafting and refining high-quality multimedia communications materials, including but not limited to human-interest stories, case studies, interviews, articles, and visual content (photos, videos).
• Design and develop graphic materials for both print and digital platforms, ensuring they align with Welthungerhilfe's branding and communication guidelines.
• Travel to project sites to gather relevant inputs, capturing compelling photos and videos to support storytelling and reporting.
• Provide technical advice and support to Welthungerhilfe project staff and partners on communication strategies, including the development of practical manuals and guidelines.
• Assist in the preparation and execution of communication plans with partners, ensuring alignment with overall objectives.
• Archive communication and visibility documents efficiently, adhering to PROMIS system requirements.
• Ensure compliance with visibility guidelines set by donors and Welthungerhilfe, coordinating closely with project teams and partners.
• Gather and showcase effective program activities and results, highlighting best practices and lessons learned.
• Produce and design communication materials, ensuring they meet Welthungerhilfe's quality standards.
• Draft and design creative content for social media and other platforms, including infographics, photo/video posts, and social media captions.
• Review and archive photography and video assets, selecting high-quality pieces for easy access and use.
• Communicate with Welthungerhilfe teams to collect media materials, draft thematic stories, and coordinate content for social media.
• Implement Welthungerhilfe’s branding and donor visibility guidelines across all communications outputs.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of Project or Communication Officer.

Your profile

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a closely related field.

Experience: At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in communications, digital media, graphic design, public information, or a related area. Minimum of 1 year of experience specifically in communications within the humanitarian or development cooperation sectors, or working experience in the media sector with a focus on these areas.

Language Skills: Fluency in English and Turkish is essential.

Working knowledge of Arabic would be highly advantageous.

Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and Windows-based applications.

Strong skills in design and video editing software, including Adobe Premiere Pro, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

Desired Qualifications:

• Prior experience working in crisis regions and understanding the unique challenges faced.
• Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality graphics and media materials.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team and in multi-cultural environments.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and other relevant design software.
• Independent, flexible, and initiative-taking work style with the ability to operate with minimal supervision.
• Open-minded with strong intercultural competencies.
• Solid knowledge in media and communications, including experience with content preparation for IEC materials, communication/social media campaigns, and coordination of design and printing processes.
• Familiarity with new technologies, digital platforms, and a strong understanding of their application in communications.
• Proven organizational skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently.
• Experience in managing social media accounts, websites, and knowledge of graphic design and video production applications is highly valued.
• Good photography skills are considered an asset.
